Ibook G4 Mac Os X Install Disc Download

The MacBook Pro is a line of Macintosh notebook computers introduced in January 2006 by Apple Inc. It is the higher-end model of the MacBook family, sitting above the consumer-focused MacBook Air, and is sold with 13- and 16-inch screens. 17-inch and 15-inch version were sold from April 2006 to June 2012 and January 2006 to November 2019 respectively.

Apple :: Ibook G4 Freezing Up & Asking For Restarts

Mar 7, 2010

I'm having issues with my Ibook G4. I'll start it, it'll run fine for a few minutes, and then freeze up to where no matter what I do, nothing happens, and then I restart it only to have the same thing happen again. I'm thinking it's a software issue, cause when I ran the hardware test, no issues showed up.

Apple :: Replaced HD Ibook G4 - On Installing OS X

Jan 18, 2009

I just replaced a failed hard drive on someone's iBook G4 and am now trying to install the operating system. I have the two CD's called 'iBook G4 software install and restore.' Using them, things go fine until it is time to 'select a destination volume,' where it doesn't show any volume to select. Running the apple hardware test off the cd shows that it detects the new hard drive, which is OK, and all the other hardware is OK too. So, what to check next? New hard drive is a seagate momentus 5400.3 ST9120822A.

Sony :: After Clean Install: Major Boot Errors

Mar 10, 2010

I made a clean install of Windows 7 on my Sony VPCEB1S1E/BJ last night, mainly because the language this laptop came in was wrong and I couldn't understand anything (Home Premium, so couldn't change it either). After the install I noticed the laptop became very slow, so I reverted it using recovery discs which were supposed to reset the laptop back to factory defaults. Ok, the language went back to the original and everything was as before. But... now the laptop is very slow, especially with boot times.
I receive a lot of errors and critical errors which show up in the event lists. Event ID is usually 100, or 102-106. A few messages aboiut how some programs delayed the boot, a few about cd-rom driver delaying the boot...

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430U Windows 7 Pro Install Errors - System Reserve Partition

Oct 26, 2013

NIB T430U (Type 8614), 128 SSD, shipped with Win 7 Pro but had a Win 8 Pro license.
Booted into Windows Installer via USB thumb drive running YUMI Multiboot tool (Win 7 Pro is the only OS on it currently). Installer loads perfectly, go into Custom (Advanced), blew away all existing partitions and create a new one using all available space (122104MB). New partition is created, go to format, expecting it to automatically create the System Reserved partition but it doesn't. Click Next, get an errors stating, 'Setup cannot create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. Check setup logs for more details.'
Did some research and decided to go into DISKPART and do all of the partitioning ahead of time. Ran the following sequence:
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
clean all
create partition primary align=1024
format fs=ntfs
active
exit
exit
Closed the Windows Installer to reboot the PC and went through the same installation motions, omitting making any changes when in the Custom (Advanced) section, same error.

Apple :: Wine On OS X - Cant Even Run Winecfg, I Get Lots Of Errors

May 29, 2009

I seem to have trouble Compiling Wine on OS X.
The compilation seems to finish successfully (as far as i can tell), however i cant even run winecfg, i get lots of errors!
I've tried with version 1.20 to 1.22, one of which even said that they support Snow Leopard in the release notes, so i figure it should work for Leopard aswell?
I dont know what to do because i've never had a compilation finish successfully only to have the app fail so horribly. Had it been on linux i'm sure it would've just worked (compiled wine serveral times on linux with no problems).
Oh, i've also tried darwine, but the later versions of that doesnt work either (unless you already have the ~/.wine folder i think)
Am i missing something? Do i need to do something special before i try wine on OS X? Has anyone else tried compiling Wine? how i can get wine to run?

Dell :: How Can I Install Windows On A New HDD...Without A Disc

Nov 19, 2007

I got a new 120GB seagate Momentus 7200rpm HDD in the mail today. I wasn't expecting it yet (I actually wasn't expecting it to ship until today) so I wasn't ready for it.
I need to know how I can copy windows from my current 60GB HDD to my new 120GB...but I don't have a Windows Xp CD. I know there is some way to make an 'image' of my current HDD? But when I research that it gets a little confusing because they are always how to's for backing up your files rater than making a CD that you can actually install on a blank HDD.
How many CD's will it take If I un-install all my programs first and basically just copy Windows itself?
I'm not interested in going out and buying an external caddy and copying directly to the new HDD externally UNLESS that is the only way to do it. I need a way that it can be done like...2day! cause i'm anxious!

Apple :: Time Capsule - Transfer Files From My Laptop But It Always Gives Me Errors

Mar 5, 2010

I just bought an apple Time Capsule and started using it last night, router and switch works great, but can I use that as an external harddrive, because I tried to transfer files from my laptop to time capsule but it always gives me errors saying that the device is disconnected and whatnot. Anyone got any words on how to use it as an external harddrive freely? By the way, I use it on my Windows 7.

Apple :: Full Startup Disk Errors With 40GB Free

Feb 4, 2009

my 4 month old MBP keeps kicking out errors saying that my startup disk is almost full even though I have something like 40GB free. Windows partition works perfectly fine in boot camp. I've run Disk Utility's verify disk and permissions options with no errors and I was able to repair disk permissions just fine. The bootup hardware diagnostic tool with the OS X disk runs fine too. Onyx runs its cleanup functions fine, but I still get the error every now and again.
Obviously I have performed a backup and will likely make a trip to the Apple Store but has anyone encountered something like this? All signs point to software issues, but I'm still a little worried.

Dell :: Windows 7 Upgrade Disc Can Do Clean Install.

Nov 17, 2009

I just received Windows 7 Upgrade Disc from Dell, and it says 'Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional Upgrade' on the disc and COA also says 'Win Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro UPG Fullfill.'
I was curious if it is really impossible to do a clean install with upgrade disc as regular upgrade disc is. (At least I was told that it is impossible), but I did not want to upgrade my notebook to Windows 7 yet.
So, I gave it a try on VMWare. It installed just like regular Windows 7 disc in a empty HDD. It even took COA that came with the upgrade disc.
I did not try activating because it probably will fail if it uses SLIC to activate, or in worst case, it will get activated on my VM, and I will be unable to active it when I actually want to upgrade my notebook's OS

Acer :: Vista Clean Install (Anytime Upgrade Disc)

Jan 28, 2009

Has anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to 'completing installation' and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.

Lenovo S440 ThinkPad Yoga S Series :: Install Windows 8 From Recovery Disc In Virtualbox Hangs On Splash Screen

May 13, 2014

when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.
I attached a screenshot to show you where it hangs.

I popped in the disc and selected Install. Well it starts installing and I go downstairs for about 15. When I come back up, the screen is off but the disc is still spinning. It's been going on like this for about 20 minutes now.
Is the screen suppose to go blank while installation occurs?

Dell :: Page File Errors

Mar 4, 2010

I have an e4300 with 4 gigs of ram and Win7. I recently downloaded the latest Windows Update as prompted by the OS, and now I'm having an issue where everytime I start the computer it asks me to set the page file size. It's always listed as 0 megs.
So, I got to reset it using the box marked managed by the system, and when I restart the same thing happens.
So instead I chose a custom size 1.5xRam for lower limit, 3x ram for higher limit, and still eveytime I restart it gives me an automatic pop-up telling me my page file is set to zero.

Dell :: IaStor Errors Causing 30 Second Lockups?

Well I've finally figured out why my computer freezes for 30 seconds at a time. I looked at the Event Viewer and this is what I've discovered...
Source: iaStor
Event ID: 9
Level: Error
The device, DeviceIdeiaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period.
Does anyone else have this problem with their Studio 1745? Is this common with all of these running the Intel Gm45 chipset? I really need to find a fix or I'm gonna have to sell this and try another brand.

Dell :: Hard Drive Clicking But No Errors

Jan 4, 2010

I've got a random clicking sound coming from my HDD (XPS m1330, 200 GB 7200 RPM drive) - so far only when running a certain torrent. Turning the torrent off stops the clicking, etc.
I called Dell who told me to run HDD diagnostics which found no errors whatsoever. Also, my system isn't freezing/slow at all. I reflashed the bios with the most updated one (A15) at the tech's suggestion but it made no difference... I prefer A09 since the fan runs less so unless anyone can confirm the bios might make a difference I'll revert it...

HP/Compaq :: G60T-200 Showing Memory Errors

InstallSep 23, 2009

Figured the G60T was sufficient, cheaped out on everything, 3GB memory. Loaded everything up and started receiving blue screen in Vista. Reloaded from factory image and still seems to be flaky. I ran memtest 86+ (failed in test 5 and 8) and windows diagnostic tools failed ERAND test. I think the memory is okay as they test fine separately so either timing off or bus or something else is messed. One week of frustration with HP support. Bottom line HP answer is if the BIOS memory test runs okay, then everything is okay. What a hassle. Anyone know if there is some quirk that would have the tests fail but everything be okay? I guess we'll return but printer and other rebates were bundled in along with cash back.

Reinstalling Mac OS 9 on a PowerMac G4 MDD

The PowerMac G4 MDD was Apple’s last Mac capable of dual-booting into both Mac OS 9 and OS X. The last of the G4 towers, this model was originally introduced in 2002, briefly evolved into an OS X-only configuration with FireWire 800 in 2003, then returned to the original design for another year.

Due to the need for some customers to run Mac OS 9 for several years after the introduction of OS X, Apple continued to sell this configuration online in parallel with the PowerMac G5 for over a year. They never pushed this option on the Apple Store but it was a consistently strong seller.

These machines came set from the factory to boot into Mac OS X, with OS 9 also loaded on the hard drive. No OS 9 installer was provided, rather that was available as part of the Software Restore CDs bundled with the Mac. The MDD uses a model-specific version of Mac OS 9.2.2, newer than what was included on the last retail OS 9 installer. You need the bundled discs if you want to reinstall a bootable OS 9 on this machine. (Note: only MDDs without FireWire 800 ports can boot into OS 9, models with FireWire 800 ports require OS X. The install CD I used is Apple part number 691-4078-A.)

Recently I was contacted by a client who was looking for just this. He had a dual 1.25GHz MDD with some older ProTools hardware, and preferred to run the software in OS 9 rather than OS X. The problem was his installation of OS 9 was unstable so he was looking for the original installer. Did I have a copy of this rare item?

Off-the-shelf I did not, but fortunately I knew what he meant and where to get one. My last job before running Oakbog full time was as IT Manager for a recording studio, and we ran ProTools hardware and software on these very Mac models! We had about 5 of those systems at one point, so I suspected there were plenty of CDs still buried deep in drawers. Fortunately there were, I contacted my colleagues at the studio and arranged to get a set of the install discs.

My client didn’t need Mac OS X, nor was he interested in first installing OS X 10.2.1 on his tower before restoring the OS 9 image. He just needed a bootable OS 9 System Folder. I suspected this was included on the set of four CDs somewhere, but it isn’t a Finder-visible file.

A bit of sleuthing in Terminal helped find the mystery location. The OS 9 software is in a hidden directory called .images on the first disc. Inside there are several files including OS9General.dmg. I was able to mount (open) this disk image to the desktop via the following Terminal command:

open /Volumes/Restore CD/.images/OS9General.dmg

That takes a few minutes, then mounts a volume called OS 9 Content onto the desktop. Inside here are our old friends Applications (Mac OS 9) and System Folder, just as we know and love.

To test this worked before sending to my client, I copied the two folders to an external FireWire drive (formatted with OS 9 drivers), then connected this to my MDD running Tiger. The Startup Disk Preference Pane showed the external drive with Mac OS 9 as a valid boot choice. Restart, a few screen flickers later, and voila! Welcome to Mac OS 9.2 appears on the screen.

Mission accomplished. I now had a valid boot system for Mac OS 9 on an MDD, along with the disc image. My client was thrilled to hear the good news, and I sent him a copy on CD the next day.

  1. Hi, downloaded your cds on macintosh garden, to install on my Gigabit Ethernet, it now detects an os9 system but when I try to boot to it, a floppy with a question mark appears and my hdd starts spinning, any idea?

  2. Hi,
    I have my old G4 MDD dual 1.25 and I have OS9General.dmg
i try to burn it with Disk Utility and Toast, but it is not a BOOTABLE CD.
I can only copy all folder and document on my hard disk and it work.

BUT I AM LOOKING FOR A BOOTABLE OS9 INSTALLER CD or DVD.

    thx a lot

  3. does anyone have the powermac g4 original restore disk for the 1.25ghz MDD 2003?? the disc im looking for is a DVD, and its part number is z691-4409-a – it includes 10.2.6 mac os x + mac os 9.22 as well as AHT 2.02. someone i spoke to online has the disc but he claims hes never been able to successfully copy it. is this a known issue to anyone else?
i have the 1.25ghz mdd 2003 model and would like to get its specific original disc to restore it to factory settings!

  4. Hi Adam, how did you create the partition on the external firewire hard drive and use the Mac OS 9 HDD driver to boot off it, Did you run the disktools in Classic to create the external partition, or is just “Blessing” the hard drive enough to set it as the active partition to boot from? I also used OS9helper in classic to update a OS 9.04 system that I copied off my previous Beige G3 Mac to install OS 9.2.2 within classic and make it bootable on a 2002 G4 Quicksilver that I built from pieces that I bought on Ebay.

Thank you for the help, and the article!

  5. I have a G4 mirror. It had 1 hard drive. Another computer I had was running system 9.2.2 for my Scitex, and it died. I took the hard drive and put it into the 2nd drive spot and hooked it up in the g4 mirror. I can see everything on that drive and I can access all the files. When I go into the system preferences and go to the startup disk and select system 9 and restart, I get a ? folder. When I try to reinstall system 9.2.2 I get a message Quicktime is not compatible, please upgrade to QT 6.0.3. When I try to start Classic it says the same thing. I need to run system 9 to run my Scitex software, any ideas?

  6. Adam,

I found a G4 powermac (the one with oval bay doors – quick silver model I think?) in the dumpster. Anyhow, I put a spare blank hard drive in it and it booted right up. It gives me the “wheres the os” ?/finder icon in the middle of the gray screen. Unfortunately I don’t have a FW drive or any clones of previous ppc 9 installs from back in the day.

    * I want to install OS9 classic on it but how does one open up the cd tray to put the cd in?
    * I do have some backups of my white intel iMac and my 08 intel MBP. If I switch them to a FW drive, will they work even though they are for intel machines?

I’m hoping I just stick my OS9.2.1 disc into the g4 PM, and it should install 123 like my old bondi blue g3. Any other tips? Thanks for your help!

  7. Hi Adam

Thanks for your site – lovely. I had a collection of old Macs starting with a couple SE’s, moving up through 10 Classics, Colour Classics, several pizza boxes (LC, LCII, 430,etc),630, 4400, 6 Grey G3’s and 4 G4 towers as well as a couple of ancient laptops, an Atari STE and 2 BBC micros. Most of these I gave away to an IT technician friend who was starting a computer museum in his garage. I still have over a dozen original install/software discs for OS 9 and OSX for PPC, iMac, iBook, etc and wondered if they were worth keeping/passing on. They range from the old orange disks up to 2005 Mac Pro disks.

  8. I have the MDD that is duel 1GHz can I replace the CPU’s with The 1.25GHz Chipset and Have it work? without any additional tinkering?

  9. Adam,
I wondered if you could help me with a trouble-shooting question.
I recently had the “power supply” replaced on a G4 Tower (running OS 9.2) and computer boots, no problem. However, ever since, the computer seemingly refuses to accept any file transfer from any external device (whether a folder of pictures, other docs).
A typical scroll bar appears indicating how many items new to be copied, but the scroll bar sits still, instead of moving, and in effect, stays still with no other action. I checked extensions, etc. for anything appearing out of sorts – but could not find a sourse of the problem.
(PS – I use the G4 as a back-up server (to another G4) for a medical office software; the software will open – no problem – from any recent back-up off the main server; but as I said, I cannot copy the folder permanently onto the device, as I had long done in the past). Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated, Thank you

  10. I made a bootable USB stick with Mac OS 9.2.2, I can boot on it and install Mac OS 9.2.2 on my G3 : http://www.numopen.fr/Creer_une_cle_USB_Mac_OS_9_et_installer_Mac_OS_9
